Roe v. Wade is hanging by a slim one-vote margin which could be lost with a change in the makeup of the U.S. Supreme court. That change could come soon as three justices are over the age of 70 and Justice Sandra Day O'Conner has stated her desire to retire. One of Roe v. Wade's staunchest supporters, Justice John Paul Stevens, is the most senior and recently celebrated his 82nd birthday. Although there are no cases pending before the Supreme Court that could overturn Roe v. Wade, it is likely that an abortion case would come before the court if President Bush were to appoint even one more conservative, anti-choice justice. We must be ready to respond quickly and with strength when a vacancy occurs. To do so we are putting an Emergency Response Plan in place and we need your help.
