It's Time for Arnold to Put His Action
Where His Mouth Is!
With several Federal Supreme Court
appointments imminent, a woman's right to choose (and
possibly even her right to use birth control) is in
danger.
Governor Schwarzenegger says he's
pro-choice. He must now be held to that position.
HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO
1. Write the Governor. Attached
are a couple of sample letters. Handwrite your own letter,
reminding the governor that California is strongly pro-choice.
We will be watching and voting in the future.
2. Write a letter to the Governor's
wife, Maria Shriver, and remind her that women demand
the right to choose. She also says she's pro-choice;
she's a "Kennedy" Democrat who is said to
have a strong influence on her husband.
3. At 5:00 p.m. on the day that a
Federal Supreme Court position opens up, either through
the death or resignation of a Justice, come to the Federal
Building on 2nd Street and San Carlos in San José.
We will begin educating people that we insist upon an
appointee who will not vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Dear Gov. Schwarzenegger:
I understand that you support a woman's right to choose.
With the current political climate, it is now time for
you to come forward with that support.
We face the overturning of Roe v.
Wade by the United States Supreme Court, and thus the
loss of our right to choose an abortion when necessary.
We look to you to do several things right now:
1. Use your name and political prestige
to educate Californians about the necessity of safe
and legal abortions. Remind Californians that
we will not go back to the days of back alley abortions
where women
died at the hands of untrained abortionists.
2. Use your name and your office to
oppose the appointment of Supreme Court justices whose
past records or current positions indicate that he or
she will vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.
3. Let the people of California and
its legislators know that should the Supreme Court of
the United States reverse Roe v. Wade, California
will always protect a woman's right to privacy. The
medical decision to have an abortion will always be
one made by a woman and her physician.
Now, before we are faced with the imminent loss of our
rights, is the time to stand up for the freedoms we
hold so dear. The health and safety of women depends
on action now.

Like you, I am a pro-choice Californian.
Currently, the fate of Roe v. Wade is hanging by a thread.
With the illness of Chief Justice William Rehnquist,
President Bush may have the opportunity to appoint one
or more Supreme Court Justices next year.
I am deeply concerned that President
Bush may nominate anti-choice Supreme Court Justices.
If this occurs, Roe v. Wade could be overturned. The
clocks will be turned back to the days of back alley
abortions. We cannot allow this to happen.
Therefore, I ask you as California's
pro-choice Governor to issue the following public statement:
I, as the Governor of the State of California, will
oppose all anti-choice nominees to the United States
Supreme Court.
Please take this action now. The fate
of women in California is at stake.
